1. About this policy
This policy explains what data the Neerby mobile app (the “Service”) collects, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept and how to delete it. Neerby is a dating app for meeting people nearby and is intended for adults aged 18 and over only.
2. Who is responsible for your data
Your data is controlled by the owner of the Neerby service. The contact address for privacy questions is listed on the Neerby page in Google Play and the App Store and on our support page.
3. Data we collect
- Sign-in data: your phone number and the one-time codes used to verify it.
- Profile information you provide: name, age, home country and city, profession, education, height, weight, body type, lifestyle answers (for example smoking, alcohol, children, living situation), languages, interests, what you are looking for, your “about me” text, profile prompts and story text.
- Location: the precise location of your device while the map or the nearby feed is open, and the home location you choose in your profile. Location is not sent while invisible mode is on, and is never collected in the background.
- Activity in the Service: likes, skips, matches, photo-sharing permissions, blocks and reports.
- Date plans: the name of the trusted contact, the meeting area and time, if you create a date plan. The trusted contact's phone number stays on your device.
- Safety data: when you report someone, or when our automated checks stop content, we receive a short preview of that content and your description of the problem.
- Technical data: session tokens and server logs, which include IP addresses and request times.
4. Data that stays on your device
Photos you add to your profile, your chat messages and voice messages are currently stored only on your device and are not uploaded to our servers, except for previews included in a report or safety check described above. The face check (head-turn challenge) runs entirely on your device; no images or video are sent to us.
5. How we use data
- to create your account and verify your sign-in;
- to show you people nearby and show your profile to them;
- to record mutual likes and create matches;
- to review reports, block abusers and keep users safe;
- to keep the Service running, fix errors and prevent abuse;
- to comply with the law and app store rules.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and the app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.
6. How we protect your location
Other users never see your exact location. They see only an approximate distance, rounded up to 100 metres. We keep only your most recent location update. A shared date-plan link never contains your exact location, expires, and can be revoked at any time.
7. Who receives your data
We share data only with providers that are needed to run the Service and that process it on our behalf:
- an SMS provider, which receives your phone number to send the verification code;
- a hosting provider, which hosts our servers and database;
- OpenStreetMap tile servers, which receive your IP address and the map area you are viewing in order to display the map;
- the geocoding service built into your phone's operating system, which converts map positions into place names.
We may also disclose data when required by law.
8. Security
All data between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Access to servers is restricted, and verification codes and session tokens are stored only as hashes.
9. How long we keep data
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, location, likes, matches, date plans and sessions are deleted. A record that the deletion took place, and reports that other users filed about you, may be kept for a limited time to prevent abuse and to prove the request was fulfilled.
10. Your rights and choices
- edit your profile at any time in the app;
- turn on invisible mode to stop sharing your location;
- withdraw location permission in your phone's settings;
- request a copy of your data or ask a question through the support page;
- delete your account in the app or on the account deletion page.
11. Children
Neerby is not intended for anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version is always available on this page, with its effective date shown at the top.
